Young policewoman Lacey Flint knows that the Thames is a dangerous place – after all, she lives on it and works on it – but she’s always been lucky. Until one day, when she finds a body floating in the water. Who was this woman and why was she wrapped so carefully in white burial cloths before being hidden in the fast-flowing depths?

DCI Dana Tulloch hates to admit it, but she’s fond of the mysterious Lacey. Even if she keeps on interfering in her investigations, and is meddling with the latest floater case. But now she's got to break some terrible news to her - news that could destroy Lacey's fragile state of mind.

And Lacey will need to keep her wits about her because there's a killer that's lurking around her boat, leaving her gifts she'd rather not receive . . .

Sharon Bolton is such an intelligent writer and I always know, the moment I pick up one of her Lacey Flint books, nothing will be important until I’ve finished it. A Dark and Twisted Tide was another fantastic novel from an author who can do no wrong in my eyes. The suspense and mystery was gripping and I think this is probably the best Lacey book so far for me.

So, Lacey, living on her boat, has become a bit of a fan of swimming in the Thames. That is, of course, until the moment she finds a body floating in there. I’ve always quite fancied staying on a boat – thought it would be nice, peaceful and serene. Safe to say, I’m never stepping near another boat again! It makes me shudder just thinking about it. As the plot unfolds, it becomes more chilling, more unnerving and more disturbing yet brilliant as you realise you’re reading Bolton at her best.

The twists were executed wonderfully and I was in suspense right from the beginning. As the story went back and forth, my attention was stole and I was drawn into the investigation, the perfect setting and the even-more developed, great character of Lacey. Lacey is probably my favourite book character in any series but I loved her even more in A Dark and Twisted Tide. Bolton’s character development is flawless and there was a whole host of intriguing characters in this book, as well of the return of brilliant names from past series too like Dana and the fantastic Joesbury. There is just so much excellence poured into this book, it’s impossible for me to not recommend this to you!

A Dark and Twisted Tide was spine-tingling, all-consuming and so, so good. I feel like I’ve been at the Thames myself, pulled through twist after twist with no clue where it was going to go next. Bolton’s writing can get no better (although remind me of that when I tell you otherwise in the next book) – A Dark and Twisted Tide is very spooky and completely stunning.
