Character Interview ~ Agnes-Francesia

Very lovely to meet you Agnes-Francesia. Were you a main character in The Chateau?

That’s an interesting question but no, I certainly have a key part and some may say I’m a badie but it is Gina, Max and Ollie’s story.

You were born over four hundred years ago. Where were you born?

Although I lived in Venice with my husband and family, I am originally from a small village in the mountains called Iserable. My mother and father owned mountain cattle which provided milk for the whole village as well as local markets.

Where did you meet Luca?

In the nearest town which was Sion the capital of the Valais canton. I met him when I worked at The Inn of the White Cross as a chamber maid. Wealthy travellers and merchants stayed there on their way from Italy to northern cities particularly Germany. Many Germans moved to Sion but Luca, an Italian, had apparently been watching me. You see, during the day, I worked in a drapers shop and any spare time I had I made fine dresses for myself and customers. He said I always looked like a noblewoman but, it wasn’t just my clothes, he told me I was the most beautiful creature he’d ever set eyes on! Yes, of course I blushed.

Why were you in Switzerland without your husband and four boys?

My mother, still alive in Switzerland was very ill and I went to her to make her comfortable during her last days. I nursed her for a few weeks when I was dragged away whilst she was gasping for her final breaths. It was terribly sad as I didn’t quite get to say goodbye. I’m sure she knew I loved her though.

Why did you choose Gina to help you?

After I located Ollie who was working close to the Chateau de Chillon, I instantly knew he was attracted to Gina the first time he saw her. Their chemistry was highly explosive. I was so amazed this lady didn’t faint. She was really strong and very tolerant of me. I was just so excited. The test was whether she would understand what I needed.

Could you bring yourself to think of the consequences if Gina couldn't help you?

I’ve had to stay strong and I would continue to if I had to, however difficult the consequences. Learning the intricacies of a new era when so much progress has been made is very difficult but as tiring as it gets, and the challenges involved – I would still pursue it.

You've spent a long time just passing by quietly. How do you feel about your story being made known to everyone in The Chateau?

Yes, I’ve been more concerned with my personal mission. Inside me I want revenge – there were so many innocent citizens persecuted and killed. Fortunately, now however this future is much more humane and the only reason I would want everyone in the Chateau to know would be if there was the potential to help other restless spirits.

Karen Aldous enjoys village life on the edge of the north-downs in Kent with easy access to the buzz of London. Not only does she love the passive pleasures of reading and writing, she also craves the more active pursuits with her family and friends such as walking, cycling and skiing especially when they involve food and wine!

Karen gets much of her inspiration from her travels and if she had to choose, France, Greece, Switzerland and Italy would be her favourite. However, wherever she goes, she discovers a new character emerges in 'Karen's World'. She likes to write about strong independent women who can direct their own lives - but struggle to control them! And, of course there's always a gorgeous hunk or two!
