When destiny fails…

Singer-songwriter Lucy Moore thought her life was perfect. At just twenty-one, she’s already met her soul mate and together they’ve landed a recording contract. But when her father dies and the love of her life betrays her in more ways than one, she returns home to pick up the pieces. On the shores of Mendocino, California, Lucy has some decisions to make. Should she start a solo career? Or should she leave it all behind for some semblance of normalcy in the quiet town she grew up in? And what about Seth, the tortured artist who always seems to be there when she needs him?

Seth Keenan has demons of his own. Eighteen months ago, he was involved in a horrific accident that he never talks about. His career as an accomplished oil-paint artist has been abandoned, replaced by the buzz of his tattoo gun. And women—well, he never sticks around for longer than a few hours of pleasure… until he meets Lucy. After one evening of listening to her seductive voice, he’s pulled under. But what about the vow he made to never get close to anyone again?

In a world where everyone has one true soul mate, can these two find love in the arms of each other?

Review:

Defining Destiny really drew me in to the emotional stories of two characters. Almost instantly, this book produced a story and people I were interested in and it had an entertaining plot throughout.

It’s written from both Lucy and Seth’s perspective. I loved both of them for different reasons. Seth was strong and honest and he would do anything to help the people he cared about. Lucy was admirable in that at times she might have come to the wrong outcome but she always refused to settle for something she didn’t truly want. I really enjoyed reading the chemistry between them as well as the more touching moments.

I thought the side characters were interesting too (but not all likeable). Caden was part of a love triangle which actually worked – I liked how I never really knew what to expect from him and his seemingly split-personality. Jax was a good character too and I really wish Mike would have been involved more in the story as the last part he was in, I felt like his character had so much more to give.

There wasn’t an aspect of Defining Destiny I didn’t enjoy, but for a book billed as paranormal romance, I just didn’t get it. Okay so obviously there was the you only have one soulmate bit but it didn’t really feel paranormal at all. Although I loved it as a New Adult Romance story, I think if someone picked up this book hoping for a paranormal romance they would probably be a bit disappointed. For me, it wasn’t disappointing at all but I could understand if others weren’t completely satisfied.

Deanna Chase excellently executed the plot as Seth and Lucy tried to overcome and grow from the obstacles in their lives. I loved this book a whole lot more than expected and really didn’t want it to end, although it did have a great ending. It was really enjoyable and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

  4. Wonderful review! I like how character driven it sounds and dual POV is often my favorite way of reading a story especially romance. I'm also intrigued by the whole soul-mate angle of this one. Glad you liked it! :)
