United They Stand.

Seventeen years ago an entire generation of aliens were sent to Earth in order to save their home planet and integrate into the human population. Now, those aliens are being hunted.

Amery Jones is your typical teenager, except for the fact she is an alien and a member of the government's secret Project Integrate.

When Amery's best friend Lola is kidnapped in order to get to her, there is only one person that can help - the exceedingly annoying and charming Lochie Mercury.

Together, Amery and Lochie must put aside their differences and attraction in order to rescue Lola before it's too late.

Excerpt:

"How did you get the chip out?"

"Fishing knife."

He made a face that was half-disgust, half-impressed. "Must have hurt like hell."

"It did," I readily agreed.

"Mildly impressive."

"Only mildly?" I teased, thinking I would like to see him get his shoulder drilled with a fishing knife and see how he likes it.

Review:

Unite is not the kind of book I pick up often, yet it’s the kind of book which often pleasantly surprises me. Jamie Campbell wrote an entertaining, original story which was interesting throughout.

In most cases when I read a book I’m not totally loving, the characters help win me over and I grow to really like the story. With Unite, I was torn because although I actually enjoyed the plot and the alien-aspect, I just wasn’t a fan of the characters or more the relationship between Amery and Lochie.

It wasn’t that I didn’t like the idea of their relationship but it felt like it needed a lot more development. What started off as Amery hating him soon rushed into something more and I thought it all needed more explaining as to why she actually disliked him so much because it all escalated so quickly without making a lot of sense.

However, whilst Unite wasn’t the most believable of books, I did find it a really engaging read. The action, I really enjoyed and I thought Jamie Campbell wrote an ending which really excelled in convincing me this is a series to continue with.

Also, the way the author kept the suspense up and the intrigue in the plot really drew me in and left me wanting to know more. With a bit more explanation, Unite would have been up high for me but despite this, I still found Unite enthralling and a likeable book.
