Guest Post: Sophie Jackson on why everyone loves a bad boy

Sophie’s Take On Why Everyone Loves A Bad Boy

Why do women love a bad boy? Personally, I think it has a lot to do with the turning a sow’s ear into a silk purse analogy. Many women want to change the bad boy, do what no other woman could do before them, take on the challenge of making him fall in love with her and live happily ever after. Or maybe I’m utterly wrong and it’s just as simple as the thought of hot sex with a bad boy?

When I think of a bad boy, I don’t necessarily think about criminals, or ‘bad’ behaviour (despite the characters in my book), but more about men who are aloof, arrogant, mysterious, brooding, and maybe sporting a sexy tattoo here or there. Those are the men that intrigue women, who conjure daydreams of naughtiness and breaking rules; the men your mother told you to steer clear of.

I guess the thrill of pursuing a man you know you shouldn’t, adds to the allure. Like Bella in Twilight, she knew being with Edward was dangerous, but she chased him anyway. Like Grace in An Ounce of Hope, she knows, with Max’s history, that he could hurt her, could let her down, but she constantly maintains that she sees something inherently good in him. She sees hope, and follows her gut. Maybe that’s why women chase the bad boy; we’re looking for the good, wanting to prove that even the most ferocious of wolves can be tamed.

An Ounce of Hope is out now.
