Festive Q&A with Sue Watson!

What sits on top of your Christmas tree?

A paper fairy with a very large head that my daughter made when she was little. Each year the fairy becomes more and more limp and by Boxing Day she is usually upside down doing pole dancer moves! But each year we take her from the decorations box, repair her and place her on top of the tree.

Favourite Christmas song?

Silent Night gives me chills and takes me straight back to being a child in the school carol service and snow coming down outside onto the playground.

Favourite Christmas movie?

Miracle on 34th Street – I love the original and the remake – the story is so magical. There’s a department store, which means shopping - and the real Father Christmas is in it – what more could you ask?

Favourite festive foodie treat?

Where do I start? I LOVE Christmas dinner and all the trimmings, I also love Christmas pudding and a mix of different alcoholic creams to lavish upon it. My mum makes a great Christmas cake which I also love... then there are the home-made truffles... the mince pies...turkey sandwiches... I’ll stop now, but I could go on.

The best part of Christmas is…

The food.

The worst part of Christmas is…

The weight gain.

Your best, and worst, Christmas present?

Best Christmas present was my kindle fire from my husband about 3 years ago. I honestly can’t think of a worst one...

When do you do your Christmas shopping?

I’m not very organised and I tend to leave it until a couple of weeks before Christmas. One year I started in October and carefully wrapped and the presents and hid them all around the house, but by Christmas I’d forgotten what I’d bought for which person, and I and it was all a bit of a mess!

Any Christmas Day traditions?

To eat until I feel sick.

Favourite Christmas book?

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas...’ my mum always read this to us on Christmas Eve and I read it to my daughter.

Favourite Christmassy book cover?

I have to say I loved my own ‘Snow Angels, Secrets and Christmas Cake’ I had never written a Christmas book until last year and it just felt to special and Christmassy to be bringing a book out and the cover is gorgeous. I’m now writing this year’s Christmas book and looking forward to another Christmassy cover when it comes out in October.

Book sat at the top of your Christmas in July wishlist?

‘The French for Christmas’ by Fiona Valpy

When did you find out Santa wasn’t real? Or is he real?

Of course he’s real – who told you he wasn’t?

How would you spend your ideal Christmas?

In a lovely log cabin somewhere snowy with close friends and family...and a very large turkey!

Thanks so much for having me Sophie – I’ll get back to writing my Christmas book now – for me it’s Christmas every July!
