Reviewed: Unbound: Colours of Love by Kathryn Taylor.

Unbound is book one in the Colours of Love trilogy. It was published by Bastei Entertainment on April 13, 2015.

Thanks to Sophie at edPR for sending me a copy of this book to review.

I was a little wary when I first started reading Unbound – I’ve not read or seen 50 Shades of Grey, only the trailer, but the naive girl, silent, domineering, hot guy and a scene in a lift all seemed a little familiar. But after reading a little bit further into the story, Unbound didn’t feel like another author trying to rip off 50 Shades and I found myself gripped with the passionate, captivating story. Kathryn Taylor sure knows how to write a hot sex scene – my Kindle felt like it was on fire for the majority of this book… But she also wrote a good twist and the characters were well drawn and interesting too.

We meet Grace as she’s leaving Chicago for London, ready to begin her internship at Huntington Ventures. Grace is in her early twenties and let’s just say she doesn’t have much life experience. She’s very naïve and a lot of her mishaps made me laugh and cringe at the same time. She wasn’t necessarily a push-over, she could be feisty too but she was prone to embarrassing herself a little as we see very early on when she believes her boss, mega-rich and mega-good-looking Jonathan Huntington, has chosen to pick her up at the airport. Instead of fading into the background like any other intern would normally do, Grace catches the eye of her new boss and finds herself quickly promoted, leading her to spend a lot more time under his watchful eye. Jonathan is alluring and mysterious and I’m looking forward to learning more about him. Though Grace seems to quickly fall for him, Jonathan only wants her for one thing which she accepts – but has she really set her heart on changing his mind?

There was incredible chemistry between Grace and Jonathan and there was no denying the attraction between them. Jonathan intrigued me anyway. I’m fascinated with his relationship with his father and touched by his relationship with his younger sister – I’m hoping to see both explored more throughout the trilogy. I thought the author built up her characters well – giving us a little insight into them all but also leaving plenty of room for development later on. I’m still thinking about Annie, Grace’s new colleague and housemate because though Grace think she only wants the best for her, to me it feels like there’s a lot more than meets the eye there. She seems a little shifty and a bit too bothered that Grace has won Jonathan over more than any other employee has managed to do so.

I really enjoyed Unbound – it was fast, steamy and addictive. One more page was never just one more page and I thought the book got better and better as it went on. Kathryn left me hanging with that sudden ending and I seriously can’t wait for the second book in the trilogy to see where Grace and Jonathan’s story will be taken next. I just need to know!

Addictive reading - Grace and Jonathan's 'relationship' and chemistry really drew me into the story. Need more!
