Meet Caroline James

What does Caroline write? Contemporary romantic fiction, drawing from her background and many years of experience rooted in the hospitality industry. In short, her books feature fun, food, frivolity and romance!

"I always wanted to write but never thought I was good enough. I was also scared of failure and being ridiculed, so put the writing dreams to one side. A career and family came along but the writing always nagged and ultimately I knew that if I didn't give it a chance I'd go to my grave wondering.

My debut book, Coffee, Tea, The Gypsy & Me wanted to write itself. The story had been in my head for years, but it was so hard to get it onto the page and the editing even harder. When it shot to #3 on Amazon I couldn't believe it. The die was cast and I never looked back. Now when a plot is working my fingers literally tingle and I want to dance round the room because I'm in the writing zone. Finding time to write isn't easy, I run a hospitality business and writing means stolen hours - very early mornings long before the world wakes up. But if you really want to do something you find the time.

I've loved my career and over the years have been fortunate to travel all over the place and have attended some wonderful events. From a private Lear jet to travel to an exclusive event in a chateau in France, to the mind-blowing Disney World kitchens in Florida and more; all great fodder for writing! I work within the catering industry and it's a hot bed of happenings, good and bad. For me, experience helps my writing and I write what I know and weave a story round it. So you'll always find food, festivals and romance in my books. I love to connect with readers and never get offended by not so kind reviews. To get any comment means someone has taken the trouble to find my book, read it and express an opinion - so valuable and important to an author and very humbling.

In my spare time I run and like to climb the occasional mountain. The running is new - another thing I never thought I could do. Age and size is no barrier - look at me! A run clears my head and it's a great time to plot (whilst taking my mind off the joint pain!). Cooking is also an obsession and I've been described as a female Keith Floyd, throwing it all together with a 'slurp' never far from my hand. For a while, I was a professional chef. I remember the feeling of utter joy to see my restaurant full of folk enjoying something I’d worked hard to produce; comparable to getting feedback from readers of my books. I love to entertain and nurture, both through food and writing, and these are a marriage of passions that give me great pleasure. As the great Keith Floyd once said, "Cooking is an art and patience a virtue. An unhurried approach is all you need." Very much like writing really… And that, dear Reader (as Floyd also said), is that."
