BLOG TOUR REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Irresistible Refrain by Michelle Mankin.

I'm excited to bring to you today my review of Irresistible Refrain by Michelle Mankin, a book I really couldn't wait to read. There's also a tour-wide giveaway at the end of this post.

Title: Irresistible Refrain (Tempest Series #1).
Author: Michelle Mankin.
Genre: New Adult.
Publication Date: October 3, 2013.

Purchase: Amazon

Two years ago everything changed for the remaining members of the Seattle rock band Tempest.

Two years is a long time.

Too long to keep on remembering.

Not nearly long enough to forget.

In trouble with nowhere else to go songstress Lace Lowell seeks refuge with the band during their stop in New York City. It's a risky move for her because they are both there, two impossibly good looking men whose lives are inseparably entwined with hers. One who bruised her heart and one who smashed it into pieces.

Warren “War” Jinkins, the mercurial lead singer of Tempest, has always had a thing for Lace. But then again so does his best friend and band mate.

Bryan “Bullet” Jackson, the sinfully handsome tat-sleeved lead guitarist, has a bad boy reputation befitting his nickname. For the past two years Bullet’s had a rule with the groupies: one time, never twice, leave ‘em satisfied, but always leave ‘em.

Two guys, one woman, and a host of dark secrets all together within the tight confines of a tour bus as the group travels cross country.

Can the past be forgotten and buried?

Will friendships prevail?

Or will the three of them succumb to seductive impulses too addictive to resist?

** Irresistible Refrain is a gritty rock and roll tale intended for mature readers seventeen and up. Contains sexual situations, strong language, and drug use. **

Review:

Tattooed rockstars in a book is generally pretty much enough to make me pick it up. So much so that I’ve read tons of books dealing with life on the road and drug addictions. Michelle Mankin, with Irresistible Refrain, dealt with those issues plus a love triangle and a lot of angst. Michelle Mankin also convinced me that there was definitely room for one more rockstar book in my life.

Irresistible Refrain is written in alternate perspectives; Brian and Lacey. I love a book written this way and for the most part, found both perspectives equally enjoyable.

The book was full of action throughout; gigs, arguments, fights, sex… It was fast paced and enthralling. But I guess after all the great things I’d heard about Irresistible Refrain, after the first few chapters, I couldn’t help but feel a little under-awed.

The first half of the book contained a lot of flashbacks. These are normally a real positive sign in a book for me, as generally I want a book to build up a lot of the past so the story doesn’t seem rushed and unrealistic. But I felt in Irresistible Refrain, there were just too many flashbacks. I struggled to get into the first half of the book because all the changes in time damaged the flow of the story. I couldn’t keep track of what was happening in real time and what had happened in the past.

The second half of the book, however, lost most of the flashbacks. This was when I just couldn’t put Irresistible Refrain down. I can’t write too much about what I enjoyed from here, because I don’t want to give anything away. I can say though that I really liked the ending. A lot was left open but that just makes me anticipate book two in the series even more!

I really enjoyed Irresistible Refrain. I suppose after reading other people’s reviews, I kind of expected myself to like it even more than I did. But there’s no denying this book drew me in. It was raw, emotional and gripping. Full of some pretty realistic situations faced on the road by rock bands, Irresistible Refrain was an addictive read.

*I recieved an ecopy of this book for the purpose of the blog tour. Review is my honest opinion.

About the Author:

Michelle Mankin is a young/new adult romance writer as well as a self-proclaimed giant…inside her own mind.

For many years, she toiled in the insurance industry as an underwriter. Somehow, the boredom didn’t kill her, and the hours of looking at facts and figures provided ample time for her mind to wander.

Love Evolution, Love Revolution, and the latest novel, Love Resolution are rock ‘n roll romances. The first is based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, the second on Much Ado About Nothing, and the third on The Tempest. The first three books in the Black Cat Records series combine the plot underpinnings of the famous playwright with the drama, excitement, and the indisputable sexiness of the rock ‘n roll industry.

When she is not putting her daydreams down on paper, you can find Michelle traveling the world with her family. Sometimes for real and sometimes just for pretend as she takes the children to school and back.
